Just in time for Martin Luthor King, Jr. Day, here’s a pretty good article about the origins and evolution of “Kumbaya,” which started as an African American spiritual from South Carolina that was sung at many civil rights and labor protests in the 60’s and 70’s but has since become a political buzzword that symbolizes “weakness and wimpiness.“
